There is a good book called “Mullahs on the Mainframe” by Jonah Blank – you can purchase it on Amazon.. its got all the info about history and practices of the Bohras.

Quite biased, I would add. Jonah Blank was dined abd wined by the Kothar in Mumbai when he wrote the book - "embedded" in Kotahar, if you like!!

So if you wish to read about one-sided view of the Bohras, carry one.

Alternatively you could supplement it by Dr. Asgar Engineer's "Bohras" - somewhat sprinkled with the Progressive view as well (only a few chapters, I would add).

Blank’s book is definitely biased towards the kothar in its analysis.. But the initial chapters have a pretty good history of the sect. I’ve never read Dr. Engineers book it seems to be very hard to come by, I’ve only seen one copy at a bookstore in Lucknow... are there places in the US where one can purchase it?

You might as well read Qiyam's posts rather than the book.

My suggestions, take the Misaq then start attending Jamaats, (you won't even have to be a learner) , but a good listener will be a requirement.

If you are a good learner, try asking questions before saying "naam".

You'll know the "details" rather quick.
