The Fatimi Dawat interpretation of the completion of religion differs from what you wrote in the sense that that verse was revealed after the appointment of the successor or the waṣī or asās who through his progeny, continues the taʾwīl of the Qurʾan by the command of Allah. If completion of religion is understood as the Prophet s.a.w.w. having completed the teaching of the Qurʾan and the Sunna, then any attempt to solve problems using sources other than the Qurʾan or Sunna would be futile and superfluous. Thus, according to Fatimi Dawat, religion is only complete with the Qurʾan and the teacher of the Qurʾan, the ulū al-amr (Qurʾan 4:59), who has to be as infallible as the Prophet s.a.w.w. by virtue of his being linked in obedience to God and the Prophet s.a.w.w.

Every post you do always ends up with Shia/Sunni divide or pristine Bohras as per your definition If you are a scholar why are you afraid to provide your true
identity. Marhoom Engineer and Saif Insaf have very public profile including their residential address and public phone number What are you afraid of.....?
Please provide us with your qualification to defend the pristine Dawoodi Bohra sect Why should one believe you instead of current occupants of Saify Mahal?

SBM sahab,
Pearl matters! Its value is not determined by who dived. What is said is important than who said it.
And who told you Engineer Asger sahab or Burhanuddin sahab are the saviour of Bohra faith?!
Thanks.

Now you are talking like ADAM, when asked a direct question, start going in circle. You had been defining Pristine Dawoodi Bohra all the time while discrediting every one else. Why do not you give us your true identity and your qualification. Are you the Saviour of Bohra Faith? Who is the savior of Bohra Faith? Is there a Bohra Faith and what is Bohra Faith.
In that case WHY DO YOU ALWAYS ASK FOR THE PROOF IF WHO SAID IS NOT IMPORTANTWhat is said is important than who said it.

This is what YOU believe but the world at large believes that Burhanuddin saab is the leader of of dawoodi bohra sect hence any actions taken by him reflect on the bohra community at large !! Not only the muslims of Gujarat who have suffered in the genocide question the average bohras with regard to their relations with the murderous leader but also the non-muslims raise the same question.badrijanab wrote:Burhanuddin sahab & family is NOT EQUAL to Dawoodi Bohra sect.
Your stereotype rants of the so called ONLY "pristine" bohra religion carry no weight outside (and even inside) this forum.

Iam extremely surprised with your above statement because you being a bohra should know very well that such actions which could have national ramifications can NEVER be carried out without the Kothar's consent when even the smallest actions of abdes are questioned and the abdes are penalised for the same if thay are against Kothar policy.
Regarding the sunni leaders, kindly note that the ones mentioned above are petty small time leaders of some miniscule sunni group and they DO NOT represent the entire Sunni World. FYI These leaders were reprimanded and criticized openly by many sunnis unlike the bohra leader whose is allergic to questions due to which no abde has the balls to question him.

Re: And the Bohris fall at the feet of Narendra Modi too
badrijanab,
it is high time you too were reminded that the 'bohras and reform' sub-forum is for discussing and advancing the cause of reform, viz. exposing the corruption, lies and deceit of the clergy under syedna burhanuddin and his mansoos. you have the bad habit of turning every thread into an attack on sunni's and what you term 1/2/3. this does not help the bohras and their fight to reform the way our jamaats are functioning or the unaccountability of the dai and his henchmen.
your fixation with sunni's and wahabi's makes it appear as if you see hallucinations of one lurking around every corner and every bush! this paranoia of yours would be best addressed within the confines of 'islam today' forum. your constant harping on the same theme is now making you obnoxious and your arguments distasteful. please get off your high horse of 'pristine bohra' and pushing your agenda of hatred on your one-track rail line which is going nowhere.
we had to remind anajmi too to respect the sentiments of bohras and refrain from passing unneccesary and irrelevant remarks contrary to the core beliefs and faith of bohras on the 'bohras and reform' forum and turning every thread into a shia-sunni battleground. in all fairness, you need to do the same. take your hatred and extreme opinions to another sub forum where it is more appropriate. if you do not have anything constructive to contribute to further the agenda of reform, then please refrain or restrain your speech.
you are free to express your opinions and beliefs, just dont sully the wrong forum, please!

You are not advancing Bohra mumineen rightful fight against tyranny of prasitic Kothar, on contrary you are axing the very branch on which you are sitting by mocking Bohra faith!
You and alike have been reminded several times to attack only the mal practices of Kothar but instead you attack Bohra faith i.e. you eat the crop instead of fencing it!

you should take your own advice. YOU are the one not advancing "Bohra mumineen rightful fight against tyranny of prasitic Kothar," and "to attack only the mal practices of Kothar", (your own quotes) but what do you do?? you have a one-track agenda of attacking 1/2/3 and sunni/wahabi ideology in every post by twisting members' words!
please tell us how that helps the cause of bohras and reform? are you trying to say that the dai is a representative of 1/2/3? if so, please declare it here openly instead of beating around the bush.

Gujarat and The Illusion of Development
This volume of essays is the outcome of a detailed study by a team of contributing research scholars led by Atul Sood. This timely evaluation provides an insight into many crucial questions: What are the constituent elements of Gujarat’s growth story? To what extent can the successful features of Gujarat’s growth story be attributed to the political regime fashioned by Narendra Modi? Is it possible to replicate even this limited success story at the national level – as Modi’s starry eyed upper and middle class following would like to believe? More significantly: what are the implications of Gujarat’s Development Model in terms of its sustainability and its desirability? What happens when we assess this development through a set of comprehensive measures, judge its implication for the average citizen’s material wellbeing, and see what it means for the political and economic rights of citizens?
The picture that emerges interrogates both the normative implications of the ‘Gujarat development model’, and offers a powerful critique of its actual performance even judged in terms of its own self projections.

An interview of prof. J.S. Bandukwala ( PUCL Gujarat unit president ) on how Modi deceived the Gujratis on development figures, made Gujrati muslims second class citizens and his ultimate aim to extend this status of theirs in the whole nation. Will he succeed in it ?

Mr Narendra Modi's Affidavit of Innocence -A DEMOCRATIC APPEAL
We strongly feel – as you surely do – that those who seek to lead our nation should stand above all reproach. A leader aspiring to lead India, owes it to its citizens to prove his innocence - specially if he has never been cross examined. The Indian citizens have a right to be sure that their future Prime Minister, and a present Chief Minister, is not susceptible to blackmail by any minister, officer or political worker..
The following electronic petition jointly signed by the noted Gandhian, Shri Chunibhai Vaidya, the distinguished lawyer-activist, Shri Girish Patel and the illustrious artiste-activist Dr Mallika Sarabhai, amongst others, appeals to Mr Narendra Modi to execute an Affidavit swearing his innocence proactively.
If you admire him please request him, and if you decry him please challenge him to sign this affidavit. After all, it only seeks to establish what the Constitution of India requires him to uphold.

AFFIDAVIT
Mr Chief Minister
As serious charges have been leveled against you, and as you are yet to appear before a court of law – much less cross-examined – a nagging needle of suspicion keeps hanging over you.
We desire that Gujarat's Chief Minister – and now a potential candidate for the Prime Ministership of India – should clearly stand above all such blemish.
While the due process of law may take years to certify you clean, you can proactively take a small, completely harmless step that is consistent with your public stand, to lay all doubt at rest in one stroke.
We present below the draft of an affidavit to be executed by you. All you need to do is to execute this before a First Class Magistrate.
As a public servant and the Chief Minister of Gujarat, you owe this to six crore fellow Gujaratis and over a billion fellow Indians.
Besides, this gesture will also go a long way in silencing your critics and improving your image, conducive for higher national responsibilities.
Conversely, declining to execute this may arm your critics and lend credence to their accusations.
On behalf of the people of India in general, and of Gujarat in particular, we request you to swear this affidavit, consistent with your oft-repeated commitment for probity and accountability. After all, there is nothing in this that negates your public stance.
Sincerely,
Hasan Jowher / Chunibhai Vaidya / Girish Patel / Mallika Sarabhai

I, Narendra Damodardas Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, do hereby solemnly swear in the name of the Constitution of India and declare, affirm and assure my Gujarati brethren and the citizens of India as under:
That in the wake of the unfortunate human tragedies of 2002 and thereafter a number of citizens of my dear state of Gujarat, and of my beloved motherland India, have been misled into believing completely incorrect, false and malicious propaganda against me.
For me all the people of India are equal, dear and important. Out of my love for my motherland, and so as to permanently set at rest these speculations, I hereby voluntarily execute and furnish this affidavit, to serve as my legally binding covenant to the people of India.
That, while I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat,
1. I never directly and consciously did or say anything to promote hatred or enmity amongst the people of India, nor to foment trouble for the Muslims of Gujarat in the wake of the ghastly crime of burning people, committed in the Sabarmati train at Godhra on 27th February 2002.
2. That neither on the 27th, nor on the 28th of February 2002 did I directly or indirectly ask the police officers to let a community vent its anger in the wake of the Godhra carnage, nor did I ask the police officers to go slow, nor was I involved in delaying the induction of central para military forces towards controlling the rioting
3. That the late Mr Ehsan Jaffery did not convey to me the imminent danger to his or his neighbour’s lives, nor did he seek my help, in the wake of the post-Godhra rioting in Gujarat
4. That I did not ask any government officer/s to try to pass money, whether as bribe or otherwise, to a lawyer representing Ms Mallika Sarabhai so as to influence him
5. That my government never took any decision with my express or implied sanction that was manifestly likely to economically enrich any affluent industrialist/s at the cost of the common man.
6. That in the matter of the assassination of Mr Haren Pandya I have not known facts contrary to the position publicly taken by the Govt of Gujarat
7. I was never involved in shielding or sheltering Babu Bajrangi, later convicted for Naroda Patia massacre, from due process of law
8. That I have never been aware, in advance, of any attempt by any officer of Gujarat involving any encounter killings
I confidently testify that each of the aforesaid statements is completely true to the best of my understanding.
I further declare that if any of these statements is later found to be incorrect within my knowledge as of date, I shall seek the forgiveness of the people of India, and shall quit politics. I shall thereafter never seek, nor accept any public office.

Re: And the Bohris fall at the feet of Narendra Modi too
Who killed my daughter Ishrat Jahan?
Below is the statement of Ishrat Jahan’s mother Shamima Kausar. Ishrat was killed along with her three friends in a fake encounter in Ahmedabad in 2004. Nine years have passed, probe is on, guilty police officers are yet to be prosecuted
My daughter Ishrat Jehan was abducted, illegally confined and killed in cold blood by officers and men of the Gujarat police, in June 2004. She was killed as part of a larger conspiracy which had a political agenda. Ishrat’s murder was projected as an ‘encounter’ and justified by branding her a terrorist who had come with 3 other men to attack the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. This was not the first fake encounter in Gujarat, other Muslims too had been executed in similar staged encounters, committed in the name of protecting the Chief Minster of Gujarat. Some of these other fake encounters, which are nothing but pre meditated extra judicial killings, are already under investigation and prosecution.
For 9 long years the Gujarat state, has abused its power, to obstruct, delay and derail the investigation, so that the hands and masterminds behind this heinous crime are shielded from legal accountability. The State of Gujarat and its senior IPS officers have filed frivolous and vexatious petitions in the Supreme Court, coerced witnesses, and deployed many other unlawful tactics. My lawyers have resolutely met each challenge and worked to uncover the truth.
The report of the judicial enquiry by the Magistrate Shri S.P. Tamang, in September 2009, concluded that my daughter was innocent and had been murdered by Gujarat police officers and men. The SIT appointed by the Gujarat High Court, under the Chairmanship of Shri R.R. Verma, too concluded in 2011, that the encounter was fake and not genuine and that Ishrat Jehan had been killed in prior custody. Under directions of the Gujarat High Court the investigation was transferred to the CBI and a FIR for murder and other grave crimes lodged in 2011.
The CBI investigation has already led to the arrest of many senior Gujarat police officers and men. The CBI investigation has revealed that complicit in the staged fake encounter of Ishrat and 3 others in 2004, were not only police officers of Gujarat, but others as well. The evidence collected by the CBI, as expressed to the High Court on the last date of hearing i.e. 14th June 2013, points to a larger conspiracy. The conspiracy appears to include Mr. Rajendra Kumar a senior officer of the Intelligence Bureau.
The State of Gujarat has on each hearing before the High Court argued strenuously to disrupt and disturb the CBI team that is investigating the killing of Ishrat and others.

Re: And the Bohris fall at the feet of Narendra Modi too
Madhu Mausi, Namo Mamu and the Ghost of Uncle Pepper
I’ve been thinking a lot about magic lately. The kind of magic that gets pulled at fairgrounds and birthday parties, or on stage, where the impossible is made to appear possible, where material objects dematerialize and specters appear, tantalizing us into suspending our disbelief. Some magicians, including those I would like to think of as friends, do what they can with consummate skill, so that we attain a state of wonder while they effect transformations using ordinary things for extraordinary purposes. They make us inhabit parallel universes on a table top. There is a kind of poetry and grace in that kind of magic. That is the kind of magic that makes men out of god-men, and re-affirms even a non-patriot’s faith in the ‘waters of India’.
There is another kind of magic, a bag of tricks that relies on the cheapening of our impulses, on our addictions to false premises, on our giving in to our basest instincts. And because sometimes old cliches are useful, we could call this kind black magic. The greatest practitioner of this art, at this moment, seems to me to be none other than the man who is setting himself up as the caudillo of the future, the chief minister of Gujarat, our prime-minister in waiting, Narendrabhai Damodardas Modi. We,a stunned would be electorate, are the rabbit he is aiming to pull out of his hat.
Magic works on simple principles, sleight of hand and sleight of mind, mainly to do with the magician doing the obvious under your nose, while you are distracted by his banter. Then, your expectations are played along, your fears, anxieties and desires are manipulated so that you see what the magician wants you to see, cleverly disguising what you overlooked while he did his thing.
One of the cleverest magic tricks is called Pepper’s Ghost – a nineteenth century technique for ‘materializing’ specters and apparitions on stage. Crucially, it requires the presence of chamber hidden in darkness, where an illusion can be staged and then reflected on to a revealed chamber – the stage - adjoining it through cleverly angled twin mirrors. Sometimes, this effect is aided by generous amounts of smoke – thereby giving us the expression – ‘smoke and mirrors’ -as shorthand for any elaborate con job.
What I am suggesting is simply this, NaMo Mamu, together with his extensive PR machinery, of which Madhu Mausi is now an important adjunct, is conducting a large scale Pepper’s Ghost-style Psy-Ops on the Indian electorate. I like to thinks of this as the Ghost of Uncle Pepper (If Madhu Mausi and NaMo Mamu, why not Uncle Pepper?)
This is not just a matter of NaMo being spectrally present and distributed (as he likes to be, through holographic projection in many places at once) but also a matter of the deliberate sleights of hand that produce the ‘lists’ of awards, distinctions and glowing testimonies to his regime.
What it conceals is a state that under-performs on many social indicators. (This has been highlighted in Kafila earlier, so I will not detail it here) What it concerns is the fact that the Modi government spends less than Goa or Karnataks on primary education, and administers some of the lowest minimum wages for agricultural and informal labour. All this while it claims to be generating huge amounts of revenue, through increased investment. If the investment is indeed as large as the Gujarat government claims it is, then the fact that the indicators of inequality are stable or rising means that in Gujarat, increased investment has not lead to a decrease in social inequalities. Is this the model of governance that Madhu Mausi wants for the rest of the country? That the rich grow richer, at the expense of everyone else?
The truth is, NaMo at the helm of the NDA is unlikely to come close to winning an absolute majority in the elections that will be held next year. If anything the mandate will be fractured giving neither the malgoverning UPA, nor the ambitious NDA, nor anyone else anything close to a shot at power by themselves. It is then that the jockeying for the minor players and parties will begin. A large faction of Corporate India, with its suitcases full of cash, emboldened by the kind of crony capitalism (the Adani-Ambani model of Public Private Partnership) that Modi presides over in Gujarat, will then make its bid. And if Namo Mamu wins, it will be because he, will have the backers with the fatter suitcase.
In that event, we will need many justifications to rationalize the sleight of hand that will bring NaMo into power. The Pepper’s Ghost spectacle that we are witnessing today, which seek to distract our attention from the darkness in Gujarat and direct it towards the bright lights that produce NaMo’s mirrored spectre is part of that game. Madhu Mausi, the magician’s faithful aide, is playing it, to the best of her ability.
Madhu Kishwar re-iterated her case for Narendra Modi and the ‘Gujarat Model of Development’ in a lengthy rejoinder to Zahir Janmohammed, which was published in Kafila (along with a response to the rejoinder by Janmohammed) last month.
In that text, Madhu Mausi (I am calling her Mausi, because she has tweeted about being more comfortable these days with people who, following ‘Bharatiya’ tradition, apply familial suffixes to women’s names, as a mark of their respect, rather than to those she considers to be ‘inauthentic’, deracinated feminists) has offered many reasons for why she thinks that Muslims in Gujarat have now decided to root for NaMo Mamu (if Madhu is Mausi, then, in the spirit of bhaichara, NaMo – Narendra Modi – must be Mamu, must he not? ). Part of her argument rests on what she did or did not see and hear in her walks and conversations in Ahmedabad, particularly in the Muslim neighborhood of Juhapura.
Kafila has carried responses to Madhu Mausi’s defense of NaMo Mamu by Aditya Nigam and Zahir Janmohammed and Dilip D’Souza.

Subhanallah. Thank you Ammar bhai for posting such a picture. Let the munafiqs know how compassionate our Aqa Mola is. Every other religious leader has the normal folk and petty politicians coming down for blessings. But it takes a leader like SMB to bring down the Butcher of Gujarat, to bow down before him. It makes excellent news and elevates the ego of the aam, poor, but proud mumins .We can now boast that the person who personally ordered the worst genocide in modern India is but a puppy licking the Mubarak Kadam of our veloved Mola. Unfortunately Mola was not able to go to Vietnam and missed bestowing the same sharaf to Pol Pot or other Khmer Rouge leader. Plesse posy more such pictures with the terrors who rule. Aqa mola showers his benediction even to the cold blooded killers of his own people.Tell me oh you muddai readers. Where will you get such a kibd hearted Shafiq Bawa.ammar786 wrote:

Ishrat Jahan encounter: Accused cop says Modi knew of conspiracy
The CBI is set to submit before a court next week a testimony that claims Chief Minister Narendra Modi was in the know of a conspiracy by policemen to kill four people, including a woman, in 2004 and falsely pass them off as terrorists. The testimony is from a police officer who claims to have overheard a conversation between two other officers, one from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the other from the police, who were both said to be close to Modi at that time.
To be sure, the alleged conversation — between officer of the IB, a Central agency, and Crime Branch officer — did not mention Modi by name. The testifying officer, who belongs to the IPS and whose identity TEHELKA has decided to withhold to protect him from intimidation, claims Vanzara told Kumar in his presence that the conspiracy to kill the four people had been approved by both the “safed daadhi (grey beard)” and the “kali daadhi (black beard)”.
The CBI believes that the former is a reference to Modi and the latter to Amit Shah, Modi’s longtime confidant who was then the state’s junior home minster in charge of the state police. Modi, as chief minister, had kept the home portfolio with him then, as he still does. The CBI plans to tell the court that in view of this officer’s testimony, it wants to probe Modi’s role in the killing.
Also, TEHELKA reported that , one of the accused police officers, has given the CBI an audiotape he says he secretly recorded in November 2011. It reportedly contains a conversation between Singhal and several top guns of the Modi government. The CBI says the group discussed ways to sabotage the investigation into the killings to save the officers involved from prosecution. The tape is also part of the chargesheet.
TEHELKA has now learnt the identity of two others in that conversation who it had not named last week. They are Pradeep Singh Jadeja, the minister for legislative affairs, and Bhupinder Chudasama, the education minister. Others in that conversation are Praful Patel, the then junior home minister who left the government after losing in last December’s Assembly election; GC Murmu, an IAS officer who is a confidant of Modi’s; and the government’s topmost lawyer who appears in this case, Advocate General Kamal Trivedi.
Trivedi is heard telling the others: “If the SIT tomorrow declares the Ishrat Jahan encounter fake, all of us will have to collectively stand up and shout that the SIT is fake.” Murmu allegedly says no harm should come to the state or its officers. The SIT report submitted the next day said the police kidnapped the four people and killed them in cold blood.
Both Vanzara and Shah, the former junior home minister, are also accused in another alleged extrajudicial killing in 2005 of a married couple, Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Kausar Bi, who, too, were branded as terrorists killed in a shootout. Vanzara has been arrested in both the 2004 and the 2005 killings. Shah was arrested in 2010 in the Sohrabuddin-Kausar Bi killings and bailed three months later. Two months ago, the BJP put Shah in charge of the party in UP, India’s politically most influential state where the BJP hopes to win big to return to power in New Delhi in next year’s General Election.
But Shah faces bad news next week. The CBI is planning to summon him for questioning in yet another case, that of the extrajudicial killing of Sadiq Jamal, a 22-year-old Muslim youth the police killed in Ahmedabad in 2003.
Though the CBI is armed with a slew of testimonies, they are relying more than the others on Singhal, who promises to be a key witness. Once a star policeman but now disgraced, Singhal is said to have decided to speak the truth after his only child, his 17-year-old son, committed suicide this year. “This is divine justice, sir,” he told CBI officers during a conversation, breaking down. “I have been punished as I killed the innocent.”

Re: And the Bohris fall at the feet of Narendra Modi too
FEKU MODI.
On the evening of Friday, June 21, as India reeled from the shock of the calamity in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi landed up in Dehradun with a handful of officers. By Sunday, it was claimed that he had rescued 15,000 stranded Gujaratis from the wreckage of Uttarakhand and sent these grateful folks back home.
This miracle was played up in media. But how was this feat achieved in a day or so, when India's entire military establishment has struggled to rescue around 40,000 people over 10 days?
Reports say that Modi pulled off this coup with a fleet of 80 Innovas. How did these cars manage to reach places like Kedarnath, across roads that have been washed away, over landslides that have wrecked most access routes?
But let us assume Modi's Innovas had wings as well as helicopter rotors. Including the driver, an Innova is designed to carry seven people. In a tough situation, assume you could pack nine passengers into each car. In that case, a convoy of 80 Innovas could ferry 720 people down the mountains to Dehradun at one go. To get 15,000 people down, the convoy would need to make 21 round trips.
The distance between Dehradun and Kedarnath is 221 km. So 21 trips up and down would mean that each Innova would have to travel nearly 9,300 km.
It takes longer to travel in the hills than in the plains. So, assuming an average speed of 40 km per hour, it would take 233 hours of driving to pull off the feat.
This assumes non-stop driving, without a second's rest to identify the Gujaratis to be rescued and keeping the rest of the distressed folk at bay, or any time to load and unload the vehicles. And forget about any downtime for the gallant rescuers.
That is nearly 10 days of miraculous work. And Modi pulled it off in a day.
Actually, in less than a day: a breathless media reported that by Saturday, 25 luxury buses had brought a group of Gujaratis back to Delhi. For some reason, four Boeing aircraft also idled in some undisclosed place nearby.
IN EVERY AREA THE MODI NARRATIVE IS A TALE OF BLUSTER AND BLUFF !! BUT THIS HIMALAYAN MIRACLE IS A BAREFACED, CYNICAL LIE !!

Re: And the Bohris fall at the feet of Narendra Modi too
Don’t belittle the army, Mr Rambo-NaMbo
The news this week that no one would have possibly missed and debated is the one that appeared in a leading national daily. The headline shouted, “Narendra Modi lands in Uttarakhand, flies out with 15,000 Gujaratis”. Clearly, Mr Modi’s propaganda machinery was at work again and NaMo bhakts on social media were lapping it up – he was the biggest superhero this country, nay this planet, nay this universe had ever seen. But neither Mr Modi nor his bhakts realised the true implication of what they were boasting about. It took only a tweet and Facebook update from the official account of the Indian Army’s Public Information wing to drive home the truth. It informed the country that the brave soldiers of our army, after putting their lives at grave risk and deploying many helicopters and other resources, had rescued only 18,930 persons till then. When someone who has pretensions of being a national leader behaves in a manner which demoralises and belittles our brave soldiers, it is unforgivable.
Moreover, what does it say of a man whose so-called “Mission 15,000” is restricted only to Gujaratis? Isn’t the very thought behind such blatant discrimination polarising itself? What happened to all the rhetoric of ‘India First’ and ‘Bharat mata ka karz’?
The moment the truth about the Rambo-NaMbo act came to light, his supporters came up with another excuse – it was only a newspaper report. This was also repeated by his party president. This is a classic example of something called ‘plausible deniability’ – a political term that says a leader can do something which will be easily denied or blamed on others. Rather ironically, for someone so quick to come up with a media statement on things absolutely unconnected to Gujarat, Mr Modi couldn’t come up with a statement refuting the fanciful tale. That itself proves who was behind the spin which belittled the valiant efforts of our soldiers.
This is, however, not the first time Mr Modi has belittled the army. When the UPA government with its deft diplomacy forced the Chinese to lift their tents and move out of Depsang in Ladakh, Mr Modi claimed that Indian army had withdrawn from its posts to secure Chinese withdrawal. Last week, one of Indian Army’s senior-most officers, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, Lt General KT Parnaik’s media interaction showed that Mr Modi was lying about the army: “Ultimately, the whole issue was resolved with the Chinese reverting to the pre-April 15 situation. In doing so, no compromise was made. We didn’t give in to any of their unusual demands. No structures were destroyed.” We all know whom the country will believe here: a vainglorious megalomaniac or one of our most respected Generals.
With a title like Feku already to his credit, it is one thing to blatantly lie about your party’s senior-most leader blessing your anointment to the party’s campaign committee chairmanship, when that leader resigns the very next day. It is one thing to lie about $450 billion of foreign investment coming to Gujarat when the real figure is 0.5% of it. Or lie about being invited by the government of Oman, forcing the Oman government to issue a public notice that the visit is to a private multinational company. Or lie about being pro-reforms while opposing every reformist move of the government, from FDI in retail to reduction of fuel subsidy. All that is still fine. But lying about the Indian Army is not. The country’s most-respected and cherished institution, nourished by the glorious sacrifices and unparalleled valour of our soldiers, doesn’t need to be belittled at the altar of naked political ambition.
