Why did Imam Hussain Die?

Although obvious to some, this has been a question that keeps recurring in my head.
Naturally, the most common explanation is that he died because it was gods wish, and tied into this is the explanation that he died for the continuation of the islamic faith. Am I Correct?
However I am still confused as to why his death is such a tragedy. Why did most of his family have to die before him? Wouldnt it have been normal for him to go out first and be killed if it was Gods wish?
An explanation that I have heard recently is based on the fact that Imam HUssain died to repent for all the blood shed during Prophet Mohammed SAW life. The reasoning goes that the prophet had said that who will pay for all the blood shed in the many wars- Imam Hussain had said that he will bear the burden. Also, this is why the Prophet cried and recounted the horrific ordeal that his grandson would face.
This makes a little more sense to me but I would like to get some references on this and read a few more artcles about this.

Fact of matter is this.

A tyrant was ruling Ummah. Imam Hussain was invited by supporters (Now known as Shias) to come to Kufa and was promised support. Imam Hussain was advised by grizzled but wise companions of Prophet 'not to go'. Imam ignored their advice and proceeded to Kufa. Supporters got wet feet and did not keep their proice. Imam was sacrificed.

A fairytale has been created since then and countless tears and blood are shed. Instead of saving Islam factions are created, some deviants are worshipping Imam. Some brain washed people believe Imam is capable of giving them children and their leader just said that he even gave child to Zachariah Nabi even though Imam Hussain was not born yet.

Basically Imam Hussain serve same function as JC for Christians.

Brother Pray to Allah only. If you need something, ask Allah only. Stop reading and listening to these fairy tales. Read Qur'an and try to understand it.

According to Syedna, prophet, imams and dais had the power to perform miracles, and infact they did perform (according to him)

So, naturally he (being Imam hussain na dai) has inherited all these powers from them.

Dawoodi Bohras, go to him for anything and everything, thinking that Aqa Maula mozija na saheb chay, and that he is the solution for all their problems whatever it may be.

Dawoodi Bohras fail to understand that it is the same GOD which created them has created him.
