If we leave our body behind after our death and our soul will go to heaven or hell.Why are all the gifts in heaven are for the pleasures of our physical selves.The rivers of milk and honey etc., etc.? Or Am I misunderstanding something here.

interesting question....i think the pleasures have been presented in physical form so that simple people can understand them.....but heaven shud be like achieveing a higher spiritual plane where worldly desires dont haunt u anymore..once ur free of them even plain water cud taste like milk......as ur mind wud desire.....
another issue is that heaven being the perfect world...everythin available to u easily......wudnt we humans get bored...i mean doing everday the same old thng.....there wudnt be no challenges in life...how boring!!!!!...i prefer stayin on earth...lol

You are misunderstanding something here. The quran talks time and again about your bodies being raised on the day of judgment. And even if it is simply your soul, why do you think the soul will be incapable of suffering in hell or experiencing pleasure in heaven? The body might be useless without a soul but a soul is not useless without a body.

I like the sentence by Anajmi regarding the soul being ever present with or without the body.If the the soul can enjoy the pleasures of the body than what would be the reason for having a clone.The more I see the picture in my mind I can only makeout heaven as a place for adults only.I sure hope there are children and pets allowed there too. Quran promises worldly matters to those that obey the quran. You can loot and make a lotta money but you are not following the quran. Wordly matters in quran doesn't mean that you will have fast cars and huge houses. One who follows the quran and the sunnah of the prophet will be satisfied with what he has.

Coming to your second part. How about if someone tells you that you have a choice of remaining 30 years old for 1, 30, 50, 70 or 100 years and at the end of it you will die. Which will you pick? Imagine that your wife will also remain the same age for as long as you live. I would choose the maximum. Now when the time you are given on earth is not enough to see all of earth, imagine how much time you will need to see all the universe. And then beyond that comes heaven.

Finally, if you still get bored of heaven, you can always ask Allah to throw you in hell.

why should one be rewarded for doing normal good things, e.g be honest, truthful, righteous, humane, etc. Aren't these supposed to be our routine values. so where does the reward come in. Even in our standard societies, being law abiding citizens does not get any reward, because that is what you are supposed to do. But law breakers are to be punished.

this whole saga of lustful reward and horrendeous punishment does not make a lot of sense. The purpose of creation can not confine into this gambit.

The world has changed, we dont live in the same society, contemperory society is much advanced than any time in past.
