Buying brides to cheer farm help?
YUDHVIR RANA

TIMES NEWS NETWORK [ THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2002 1:37:49 AM ]

TARN TARAN: Anything to make farm help happy, even if it means buying a bride for him. And to keep them tilling your fields and tending to your home till kingdom comes.
Full marks for giving a new twist to benevolent lordship. The only problem is what is paternalistic care to some is permanent slavery to others.
Nothing wrong with guarding business interests, but when rich farmers play matchfixers for their farm helps there is no knowing how knotty the story is going to get. Sometime back, Jyoti Rashmi, a thirteen-year-old minor, was allegedly bought by Harpal Singh, a farmer, from a nondescript village in Maharashtra to marry her with his annoying farm help who had threatened to quit work and leave for home to get married.
To persuade Raju, Harpal, with the consent of his family, allegedly bought Jyoti from a village near Nanded Sahib, Maharastra, from his own sources on a payment of Rs 16,000. Only a few days ago, he got Jyoti married to Raju.
The fringe benefit for the farmer: free housemaid who would work for the farmer’s family as bonded labour and keep the farm help sated and loyal. And, forever in debt.
Sources alleged that Raju owed some money to Harpal, who in return of getting him married asked him to pay a hefty amount in instalments that may take several years to clear.
On getting a tip-off, the police reportedly raided the farm house of Harpal and recovered Jyoti and Raju. Harpal was found absconding, said unconfirmed reports. Police sources said that Jyoti had admitted that she was married to Raju in a gurdwara near Chabhal under the influence of some intoxicant. Post-marriage, Jyoti was renamed as Rani.
DSP Gurpreet Singh, when contacted, said that they had recovered Jyoti and were carrying on further investigation. The DSP added that they had information on another girl from Maharashtra and they were trying to recover her, too
.
Jyoti’s case is not an isolated instance. The trading of girls was not entirely new to the area, sources said.
The girls were being bought from the poverty-stricken areas for anything between Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 and were further sold to work as slaves for a negotiable price that could go up to Rs 25,000, they said drily.

Gurusevak
Pl. read carefully my original post. Let me rephrase it so you may understand. I meant to say that "those who argue that Only Hindus or Sikhs treat their woment like Chattel are ignorant."
I would further state that this kind of things are happening in Indo Pak region regardless of their belief in God and goodness taught by their religion. Basic problem is Ignorance, lack of education and common sence and Tolarance by others for such henious acts. No religion says that you mistreat your fellow human being.
Main post was for the benifit of Hafeez who posts missdeeds of so called Muslims and tries to pin it down to Islam as practiced by Majority of Muslims. My intention was to show him that this kind of stuff happen in all communities and all religions. If ppl. followed to their religious teachings faithfully such things will not happen.
I am sorry if I offended you.
Peace

Just to get your point clearly - is (the ignorant)Hafeez suggesting only Hindus and Sikhs treat their women badly or is he asserting that orthodox Muslims mistreat women? And I know I can ask Hafeez directly but I just want to re-acquaint myself with your mindset.

Gurusevak,
I had posted some reference early to how destitute hindus have been kept in perpetual bondage in Sind Pakistan and treated WORSE than animals.
I had also posted reference to young boys 12 + from low caste muslimfamilies being sold to landlords due to poverty & destitution. These boys form the backbone of agricultue in Punjab!
There is discrimination/injustice in all societies. Anajmi wrote "No matter how many times you type this Beavis, you will never be able to convert falsehood to the truth."
As is his wont, he always leaves his thoughts in mid-sentence. I will complete it for those who have not fully fathomed this creature. "you will never be able to convert falsehood to the truth not unless you happen to be a certain Arab country willing to spend a lot of petro-dollars and the recipients of this *generosity* are the jahils originating from a backward country."

Another gem of babu bhajiyas intelligence. First a word processor, now a sentence completer. I will complete the sentence for those of you who are not intelligent enough to understand, here it is...
"you will never be able to convert falsehood to the truth not unless you happen to be a certain Arab country willing to spend a lot of petro-dollars and the recipients of this *generosity* are the jahils originating from a backward country. Actually when I was here last time around Anajmi kicked my butt and exposed me as a lying individaul. I will do everything in my power to avenge my disgrace and so I have even fallen down from an intelligent individual to a complete idiot just to complete anajmi's sentences"

Wish you all the best in the journey towards...you know what, you are the intelligent one.
And I have said this before, you are not the first one whose said that the quran is a fake and you are definitely not the last one. Remember the hell is a place which is much bigger than heaven, it needs to accomodate more people!!
By way the way can you complete the above two sentences?

Doe your favourite comic give relative sizes of heaven and hell or is this something the local mullahs tell you? We have heard of how the imam of each mosque believes that all muslims following other imams will go to hell - on that basis even they with their pea-brains would be able to calculate that hell is larger. Any ayats (uninterpreted by any mullahs) or hadith to support your assertion?

Like we always knew - your faith is a series of assumptions which over time and by custom have been converted into "Words of God". In your eagerness to score points over myself and Guru, you do give away a lot. BTW do you lot believe that you will ascend/descend to the other world with all your physical attributes intact?

Babu,
Unlike Ismailis, I have nothing to hide. I consider everyone ready for initiation. The sooner you know that hell is ready to accomodate you, the sooner you will try finding ways of not getting in there.

Before I prepare for hell I would still like to know whether you believe we will ascend/descend to the other world in our current physical form - why else does the size of my head and what it is filled with matter? Also are you finally admitting there are more than one way of not going to hell - your previous conviction was that the ONLY way to avoid hell was to follow Quran and sunnah?

Does it matter to you what I believe in?
I believe that we will be raised in our own physical form on the day of judgment. And the quran says that is so. So yes, on the day of judgment you will be amongst the ones with a big head.
You know something, your intelligence level is really beginning to bother me.
As far as the number of ways are concerned, I can only assume that you are running out of ideas for having an argument. Too bad, I am getting used to kicking butt.
