YAM

I was looking for info on ibn hawshab and got connected to your site. I commend yr efforts - I think all muslim communities need to reform and be intellectually critical, in order to grow spiritually - dogma is the worst enemy.

I'm Ismaili (we don't refer to ourselves as agakhani!) We share a common history, common Imams and even common da'is. I admire the fact that bohras have kept up some of the historical traditions such as copying manuscripts - but I'm curious whether you have kept up the spiritual and progressive traditions that Ismailism has been famous for (and persecuted for in history. Back in India, a bohra friend of ours had to wear burkha, go through female circumsicion and had limited public mobility after marriage - even though she grew up in a "progressive" family - I do not want to focus on stereotypes an that's why I'm glad there are progressives out there. Every community incluing my own had its traditionalists, or those families in power ..how much does the spiritual concept of hazrat Ali and Imams survived - is it limited to some groups?
