Functions of three top functioneries

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

Functions of three top functioneries

Brother accountability,
Today the entire Bohra Priesthood survives on Falsehood. In the age of social and political freedom they still apply the norms of the period of hidden Imam for their vested interests. Everywhere they try to justify their unholy actions as “900-years-old faith, belief and tradition of Dawoodi Bohra community.

Till 5th Fatimid Imam Molana Jaferus-Sadiq Imams were neither infallible nor Imamt was hereditary nor it was dependent on Nass.

In the year 755 Imam Ismail’s sudden and unexpected death during lifetime of his father, created difficult political crises for Jaferus-Sadiq as his other three sons claimed Imamat. It in this situation that Imam Jaferus-Sadiq created a consensus for ‘hereditary’ and ‘infallibility’ of Imam and ‘Nass’ as the mark of Imam’s legitimacy. (Hence Misaq even to Imam, Masoomiyat even for Imam were political imposition and have no importance today. During earlier Dais time these were just symbolic.)
In his last days Jaferus-Sadiq sent his dais or propagandists all over the then Muslim world secretly in disguise of traders.
Since Imam was alive the functions of these Dai-ul-Mutlaqs were to propagate these new doctrines and also that:
1) Imams were the inspired successors of the great Prophet.
2) Imams did not care for the worldly power or wealth and their mission is a pure and simple divine mission.
3) But whenever they acquire the secular power it is to show that good government is possible with strict observance of these doctrines.

When Dais started functionally independently in India it became necessary for our 3rd Yamani Dai, Sayedna Hatim to remind them of their qualifications and functions once again which were listed down by Quazi al-Numan during Imam Jafer’s Imamat.
. Functions of the three top functionaries of Dawat were:
1) To spend their time in company of Mumins of higher rank, so that these learned men may ask questions according to their degree and according to what is in their minds.
2) To be always on lookout for persons who are found of learning, who act according to the religion, who pay attention to Tawil (hidden knowledge), who are intelligent and who abstain from unlawful things.
3) To scrutinize such persons in different ways, such as temporal and spiritual, by giving them powers and instigate into them conditions keeping them unaware.
4) Those who are found perfect the dai should raise them to higher rank. Those who perform properly dai should send them to towns which are near and get the news of their works. Those who discharge their duties properly dai should take the oath of fealty from them their intentions must be sincere for Allah and His apostle. They should not have any desire except for Allah, such as covetousness, rank, thanks, recommendation or kindness in worldly matter and in his favour for sake of wealth and pomp, nay it should only be for Din. Ultimately dai should find out the most perfect one from them and raise him to the rank of dai.
5) These functionaries should accomplish the wants of the mumins, do them justice for them from those who oppress them. If any quarrel or dispute takes place between the believers then they should intervene and unite them and should produce love among them.
6) To protect Mumins from outside persecution.
7) To take journey and represent Dawat’s case before the political rulers of the time and insure safety for the Mumins.

Mostly since late Sayedna Taher Saifuddin’s time the prescribed qualifications for a Dai are overlooked and function of Dawat (a mission to propagate Fatimi doctrines} has been altered.
During earlier Dais time monopoly of leading prayers in Bohra mosques, performance of Nikah, Moharram sermons etc. were not the functions of a Dai or Mazoon or Mukasir. These were the independent duties of qualified local Mullas and Amils appointed and financed by local Jamats

Today organizing International Scout-band competitions, Moharram and Grand scale Birthday celebration, Rasme-Saifee, Zikra, inaugurations of the renovated mosques, Dai’s tours and travels, Darees, Ziyafat, Kadambosi, Najwa, Nawazishat, Vadhavni, offering costly gifts and cheques to politician etc. are their own money making innovations which in reality have nothing to do with Dai’s function.

Unfortunately legal course is a very costly and time-taking affair; otherwise our religious establishment (Kothar) has no legal or religious right on community’s wealth and properties. Not only mosque, musafarkhana, graveyards, Mazars but they can even be thrown out of Saifee and Badri Mahal as they are community’s registered charitable properties.
