Muslim festival to take place at legislature<p>Victoria Times Colonist<p>B.C.'s Muslim community, comprising the Muslim Canadian Federation,<br>Ismaili Muslim community, B.C. Muslim Association and the Shia Muslim<br>community, will host a celebration of Eid-al-Adha at 6 p.m. today at the legislature. <p>Premier Gordon Campbell and approximately 40 ministers and MLAs will join the gathering, the first time that the festival of Eid has been recognized formally by the province. <p>Eid-al-Adha (Festival of the Sacrifice) is a major religious event in the life of<br>Muslims all over the world. It commemorates the completion of Hajj, the holy pilgrimage to Mecca that all Muslims, who are able,<br>must make. <p>This year Eid-al-Adha occurred on Feb. 22 -- the 10th day of Zul-Hijjah. <p>The festival recognizes sacrifice, and focuses on Abraham who journeyed from<br>the land of idols, was ready to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command, and who built the first house of worship to the one God. <p>Prophet Abraham is recognized as the father of Islam,Christianity and Judaism. <p>The celebration is a joint venture among Muslim groups from across the Lower<br>Mainland and Victoria and represents the province's 100,000 Muslims.<p>

Ismailis are allowed to celebrate all festivals and that includes navroz. <p>Celebrate eid - but don't go for Hajj<p>Celebrate eid - but don't fast for a month.<p>Free entry into heaven - no need to pray.
