Another devious strategy implemented by Kothar is 'Taisur un Nikah" whereby they encourage young people of marriagable age ( which according to them is 18 to 22 years od ) to attend these camps and inter mingle with each other with the sole purpose of evaluating the other attendees as potential spouses. Needless to say the people who go for this have a good time. at exotic locations ( albeit in STD and Ridaas)
The strategy here is quite simple again let the yougsters get married early so that they do not have much exposure to the outside world and other cultures which may cause them to think for themselves which in turn would potentailly destroy the Kothar, imagine a whole new generation of thinking bohras who are not dependent on the Amils to tell them what to do . People like AQ zombie would be an extinct breed.
My question: is this intermingling of sexes pemitted in Islam ( I am not talking of the Wahabi Interpretation ) but the general consensus amongst Islamic scholars
Is Taisur un Nikah Islaimic ?

in theory, what the TNC is trying to do is commendable in the sense that boys and girls of marriageable age are encouraged to actively search for partners within the community and prevent them from straying and getting hitched up with undesirable spouses. their meetings and inter-action is closely supervised and they are very rarely left alone.
but in reality, it is not all that easy as it appears. i have talked with many youngsters and they feel that the format is a bit ridiculous and they are treated as immature kids, when in fact they are much smarter than the mullas who keep herding them around. they feel pushed and pressured to make choices and decide, as if its a split second decision. but many have found spouses in these meetings and have gone onto happy marriages. from a strictly hardline islamic standpoint, perhaps this system would be considered scandalous. but bohras are generally much more liberal in their outlook and supervised mingling is not bad, considering the intended outcome.
now as for the underlying intentions of kothar, i do not think it is really as sinister as people make it to be, atleast in this case. the youngsters of today are far more clever and know their own minds, more than we adults give them credit. at their age, we were not as street-smart. in the west, the TNC model does not seem to have attracted much adverse publicity so far.

Nowadays many bohra alliances are even fixed via internet as the youger generation is more tech savvy and their favourite pastime is surfing the net esp. the facebook and other similar sites.
