Obedience to Parents According to Islam
Hi Friends
What are the regulations preached to adult children for obedience to parent’s instructions / advise / wishes ? If thoughts of children do not match with that of parents !
In certain situations such as :
1.Freedom to pursue one’s own academic interest / career / dream / profession ?
2.Freedom to live in city of choice, different than that of parents ?
3.Freedom to choose life partner ?
4.Freedom to Plan his / her family (conception and upbringing) ?
Please note above questions are neutral in nature, this question do not imply any negative behaviour / impression / feeling towards parents.

AS
This is not where you get answers to your thoughtful question.
Your questions should be directed to some Islamic Q&A sites.
Best way to google your question and always say as per Islam in your question.
Good luck

Exactly what is an "adult child" ? If the child is an adult then he would not seek religious guidance to personal lifestyle choices, if the adult is a child he has bigger issues to deal with than lifestyle choices or religion.humanbeing wrote: What are the regulations preached to adult children

Hi FB
Adult Child in the context of my post means (read from parent’s POV); Child who has completed 18 + years of age and “shall” be responsible for his/her life. However questions I expressed does affect his / her responsibilities and duties towards parents.
In Indian culture, a child is never grown up enough to fly on its own according to parents. Major life decisions and choices are as per parent’s approval and likings. However parent’s seek to control their children’s life with justification from the religion.
Having nurtured the child from infancy, parents are protective and unconfident of independent judgement ability of the grown up child. Every parents out of love and protective feeling, wants perfect life for their kids as per their assumption, experience and influence. Also with societal conditioning, pressure and affiliations parents are reluctant to allow / practice difference of opinions devoid of any harm.
In these situations, an adult child is expected to live life perfectly, deemed or defined by parents and societal approvals. Any individual thought or demand for freedom is looked upon as rebellion and not a sign of obedient / good child. The source of moral justification of controlling children’s choices comes from religions. Anything is approved if religion justifies, that is acceptable to the society and by parents.
On a general note; our lives irrespective of our roles in the society is constantly judged from religious justifications, consequences of which leading to hell or heaven. Making a mistake is compared to Sin, Difference of opinion is compared to rebellion and deviation from path of righteousness. Considering a person’s intention or will to make a choice in his / her life is out of good faith and no harm to anyone.

“If the child is an adult then he would not seek religious guidance to personal lifestyle choices” – Please elaborate on your POV !
“if the adult is a child he has bigger issues to deal with than lifestyle choices or religion.” – Please educate me on bigger issues of a child in this context.

Re: Obedience to Parents According to Islam
With context to religious justification I do not intend to portray religion in wrong lights. Religion commandments are expressed in good faith and betterment of humanity as whole. However the interpretation, knowledge and awareness of such commandments / teachings are not known or understood in right spirit by parents or sections of the society which wields influence.
Everyone is reluctant to change, addition to that anxiety of future uncertainty, love, protection and acceptance in the society makes parents and well wishers; weak / reluctant / angry / prejudiced towards individual choice or thought process. Such emotional battles of the family cannot be won by stubbornness, rigid attitude, excommunication, boycotting or giving up on loved ones.
