The pre-marital link

The one and only free public forum for Bohras. The focus of this forum is the reform movement, the Dawoodi Bohra faith and, of course, the corrupt priesthood. But the discussion is in no way restricted to the Bohras alone.

The pre-marital link

Just curious - is this another brother-sister wedding? I mean most marriages in Syedna's family happen between cousins.

Once again, I am not being sarcastic just curious. If anyone has the right information and inclination to reply just let me know if the 'Royal' couple has any pre existing blood relationship.

Their (so-called "Royals") males could marry and polute the outsider female commoners. But their "Royal" females, supposedly, cannot. It's quite sacrilegous and "no, no" to adulterate their pedigree.

Has somebody any any examples of "royal females" having married the commoner males? It would be interesting and rare to find some or any.

One of the present Syedna's granddaughters has married not only outside the 'royalty' but outside the dawoodi bohra community. She eloped with a Sikh (sardarji) and finally married him.

Syedna, then on a Kashmir tour, called the boy to meet him in Srinagar. There he persuaded him to convert to bohraism but the guy didn't oblige.

That was one of the few decisions of Syedna which I usually praise. He let the girl exercise her choice even when the guy retained his religion. May be Syedna was hapless before the rebellious royal girl but whatever happened was good.

Tahir

Does the grand daughter of Present Sayedna who married outside still practice Bohrah religion? and if so is she allowed to come to mosque and pray and sit in the thaals etc. with her other royal relatives?

The reason I am asking is I know someone in NJ who married outside and the boy refused to convert. She and her mother were really treated bad by the wife of the Amil. Pressure was put on the family to break all relations with their daughter. When the father died the daughter was not allowed to accept Taziyat at the Sadakalla and the Tejia gathering.

I am curious to find out if the Shahzadi was treated differently.

Ustaad,
I came to know about the incidence from an uncle who was with Syedna during that Kashmir trip. He is still a kothar insider but Syedna's family knows pretty well how to prevent unpleasent news from reaching the masses (for instance, very few people know that Syedna's brother Yusuf Najmuddin was murdered in Cairo by his own family members).

All I know is that the shezadi was not seen again with the family. May be secretly she is in touch with the family while being outcasted officially.

There were 18 The Qasr Mubarak weddings this week. Count the number of "royals" marrying so-called "commoners". The clue obviously is in the title "BS", which incidentally has another connotation in the western countries. Give you one good guess of what it is. Please also notice the incessant fetish or obsession of using arabic version of name-joinders such as "bin" and "binte", instead of lisan-e-dawaat. Wow!!!!

Dear Tahir,
History deals with facts and figures. We are not talking Ramayan and Mahabharat. Kindly mention the name and details of the shezadi you are claiming to have eloped with a sardar.
However, look at the last name in the wedding list. No BS! absolute plain? How did he enter Royal family!

A conjecture. Perhaps this groom or the bride was a BS before and had married outside the Bohri fold and got thrown out of the Royal Family. He or she then "saw light", got divorced and now marrying in the fold.

Should make a good script for a Bollywood movie, e'h!

Ramayan and Mahabharata are historical epics of kings, their greed for power and their fratricidal wars. Their validity has been established by archaeological researches and their characters existed in time and space. We still have the cities of Ayodhya,Mathura and the battlefield of Kurushetra. Yes, there are many exaggerations and mythology which crept into both stories while they were passed through word of mouth over centuries before finally being compiled . The basic message that 'good prevails over evil' is however kept intact. The battle of maahabharat is very similar to the battle of karbala and people who believe in it do not beat their chests to lament over the dead. Instead they inculcate the good values the stories convey and then live upto those values by fighting the injustice and curruption around.

Now compare this with your belief set. You believe that there is actually an Imam behind the curtain who appeared in someone's dream to appoint him as the 'agent' between you and God ! Did you ask the dai for facts and figures when he was narrating this 'ramayana' to you in the waaz?

Funny that you ask for facts and figures for believing in plausible sounding incidences like a shezadi marrying outside comunity.
