Re: Why we do not call ourselves Muslims

Your post about the Quran not being a book was interesting. It is my understanding that the Quran has no biginning and no end? A book normally has a biginning a middle and an end. It is also interesting to note that the verses (ayah) are "signs". ---signs that show the way perhaps?

It is my understanding that "honor" killings are also part of the "tradition" of Sikh and Hindu communities. (western media did report on these before getting fixated on Islam) A 2007 ABC news article mentioned that homicide was the leading cause of death for pregnant women in the U.S.---pregnant wo...

Re: Why we do not call ourselves Muslims

There is only one God, so regardless of our different understanding or ways of worship---we all ultimately worship the "one" God/divine/creator ---whatever name we may call it. Making judgements against others based on a premise that you/your beliefs/your God is "superior" to all others is the cause...

Sorry about this being off the subject but I found the question by IAMMUSLIM interesting. I think the verses are not referring to differences of understanding/interpretation but rather the "division" caused by claiming the "only truth" or the "only right path" and that all other ways of understandin...

I am not sure the "voilent" protests against cartoons really represents Islam/peace. When I mentioned lesser Jihad---It was not my intention that such (cartoon)protests be an ideal example of it. I was thinking more in terms of the Islamic concept of "Ijtihad"---to strive, to make efforts to solve a...

If Hijab/beard are used as political statements by religious leaders who are "fundamentalists" then should "modernists"/"progressives" take off hijab and shave off beards as a counter political statement? Is there something wrong with muslim boys that they cannot control themselves? Are they "weaker" than other boys their age who are able to go to a prom and still behave? Maybe western boys are better at the inner Jihad? And the girls. Are our girls such wimps that they cannot defend themselves or th...

Re: For the Muslim Prom Queen, There Are No Kings Allowed

I think many "unislamic" concepts/ideas have crept into islam and are considered as "requirements" of islam. During the time of the prophet, women were equal partners of the community and religion. they were "participators". Why then the "segregation" now? What happened? The whole purpose of being a...

The Quran gives many freedoms to women and one of them is the freeedom to dress as they choose (with the condition that the dress be modest). This condition is applied to both men and women. However, what is disturbing to me is the misconceptions regarding this issue of the veil. Many imams and shei...

The article mentions something like---either the judeo-christian philosophy will win or the islamic philosophy will win. I would say, Islam has already "won". If Islam is about submission to one god, then most of the world is already monotheistic and therefore is "Islamic". Islam includes christians...

I have friends who have had the same experience, christians comming up to them and saying their god is not the same as the god of islam.
